Send a hint instead of hoping they guess
Dropping a link in the chat is not a hint — it scrolls away by evening. Saying it out loud is not a hint either; at that point it is an order. A hint is a specific thing pointed at a specific person, which they see at the moment it is useful and you never have to bring up again.
A hint goes to a person, not to a noticeboard
This is the whole reason Hintik is not a wishlist app with extra steps. A wishlist waits for someone to come and read it. A hint is addressed: you pick the person who might give it, and it lands with them.
They can react, and you can see they have seen it — which is usually all you wanted to know. What you cannot see is what they did next.

The hint goes to them. If they are not on Hintik yet, it waits for them — you send an invite and the hint is attached to it, ready the moment they accept.

They mark it bought or planned. You never see that mark. It is not hidden in the interface; the database will not serve it to you.
Things and experiences, both
A hint is either a thing or an act. A jacket is a thing. A weekend away, a concert, a dinner at the place with the bad lighting and the good food — those are acts, and they are gifts too.
The only difference in what you fill in is the price, which things have and acts do not; the cost of a trip lives behind its own link anyway. Both take a link and a photo, because a concert is explained by a picture just as well as a coat is.
Size, colour, and the thing being out of stock
Most gifts that miss do not miss on the idea, they miss on the variant. Hintik reads the options off the shop page — sizes, colours, volumes — so you can point at the one you actually want, and the giver can mark it if the shop has run out.
The list of options is kept with the hint, not fetched again later, because plenty of shops refuse a second visit. Choosing a variant is part of Hintik Pro. Correcting a price that the page reported wrong is not, and never will be: that is fixing our mistake, not a feature.
Frequently asked
Can the person I hinted to see whether I know they bought it?
They cannot, because you do not know. When someone marks your hint as bought, planned, given or done, that mark is visible to them alone. It is enforced at the database level, not by hiding a label in the app.
Can I hint to someone who does not have the app?
Yes. You send them an invite, and the hint waits attached to it. When they accept, the hint is already there — they do not have to be told twice.
How many hints can I send for free?
Five active hints. Archived ones do not count against it, and people are unlimited — there is no cap on how many people you connect with, ever. More active hints come with the one-time Hintik Pro purchase.
Will they know I saw their reaction?
You see reactions to your own hint and get a push about them, free. What stays private is the other direction: what they are actually doing about it.
Is a hint the same as a wishlist item?
No, and Hintik has both. A hint is aimed at one person. A wishlist sits at a link and waits for whoever opens it. Most people use both — the list for the crowd, hints for the two or three people who will actually buy something.
